Looking for the HART source code?

HART Installation Instructions

Please follow these instructions if you want to install the HART application on your Android device. You will also need a schema file, which tells the system what coding labels and categories are available. If you follow the steps below you should be up and running without a problem.

  1. Download the file from the URL to your laptop, then connect the android mobile to the laptop with a usb cable, and then copy and paste the file.
  2. Download the file directly from your mobile, by accessing the URL in the browser.

(Option 1) Installation Steps Directly on Device

  1. Download the current version of the application HART-8.21c.apk
  2. Download the current version of the HART coding schemes HARTSchemas.xml
  3. Install HART using the .apk file (you may need to enable "Unknown sources" first). See the section below for instructions on how to do that.
  4. The apk install password is spongebob
  5. A folder HART will be created in your mobile (or in the SD card) during the installation.
  6. Go to folder /HARTData/ on your file system.
  7. In our case, we used "ES explorer" program downloaded from play store, and the folder was mounted in /emulated/0/HARTData/
  8. Once in this folder, delete the file "HARTSchemas.xml".
  9. Go to the folder where you extracted the .zip. Copy the "HARTSchemas.xml" file from that folder, and paste it into the /HARTData/ folder.
  10. You should now be ready to start the application. The password is ryan

(Option 2) Installation Steps Via Your Desktop

  1. Download the current version of the application HART-8.21c.apk
  2. Download the current version of the HART coding schemes HARTSchemas.xml

  3. Not all web browsers will save XML files as proper text files and will instead attempt to save the file as something readable, doing so corrupting the content. In order to avoid this potential data corruption we encourage you to right-click the schema link and use the save-as option from the menu.

  4. Install HART using the .apk file (you may need to enable "Unknown sources" first). See the section below for instructions on how to do that. Really nice instructions on how to install an APK to a device connected through USB can be found here
  5. You should now be ready to start the application. Use the password provided by the website where you obtained HART.

Apps to be installed from Unknown Sources in Android

As part of the Android Operative system, there is a restriction that blocks installing applications outside the Google Play Store.

If this is the first time you're installing HART you will most likely be greeted with the following message:

"Install blocked. For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not obtained from Play Store"

If you have a phone running Android Oreo or higher, you won’t see a setting to allow installation of apps from unknown sources.

To allow the HART application to be installed, follow this steps:

  1. Navigate to Setting > Security.
  2. Check the option "Unknown sources".
  3. Tap OK on the prompt message.
  4. Select "Trust".

That’s all, now you can try again to install the Application. Note that this settings will be stored permanently into your Operative System.
